About two years ago a box of odds and ends was donated to my art club. As my friends and I went through the box we pulled out dozens of old LP records. We didn't have a record player but we wanted to put them to use so we brainstormed ways we could use them. We decided to paint them and hang them up on the walls of our art studio. By spinning them as we sprayed and drizzled we produced a fun affect. We set them outside to dry and it was so hot they began to curl up. That's when we realized they would do the same in the oven. We took the rest of our records cleaned them off and stuck them in the oven for about a minute or two on 350 degrees. After we took them out (with gloves of course) we manipulated the shape a bit and voila we had fun bowls to stick fruit in or just the car keys. This was not only fun but so so easy and took little time and little supplies. Now I have a fun way to dress up the wall or a table.

Hi, I noticed this article and was really surprised that there wasn't a warning
or disclaimer of any kind on this. Vinyl records are made from Polyvinyl
Chloride (PVC) plastic. It's extremely harmful, especially when heated and
handled. Heck, I've been stupid and made bowls like this myself...and
filled the house with toxic fumes that gave me a throat ache (and probably
much more) for a couple of days. After doing a major research project on
PVC plastics in college, I can honestly say that you should research it a
bit yourself and throw down a disclaimer of some sort. Here's some info,
but heck, you could just google PVC, toxins, etc.

Just a bit concerned,
