Leather, wool, suede... what's wrong with these things? They come from animal furs and are made into coats, pants, shirts and necklaces. Just think, an animal dying just so some person can look pretty.
People sometimes come up with the approach that if they buy one thing, what harm can it do? For example, I was recently at the mall with a friend and I saw a choker necklace. It was pretty and fairly cheap. I felt it and it didn't feel like a normal necklace. Sure enough, I read the label: LEATHER. I put that necklace back on the rack so quickly. LEATHER!
My friend didn't see the problem. What harm could one little leather necklace do? A lot of people think this way. They think that as long as they aren't buying a whole new wardrobe of leather, wool, suede and furs then it's no big problem. But it is a problem.
You see, this is how I explain it. Once you buy that necklace - or that jacket, shirt, pants, etc. - the world is one short of that animal product. There is a need for that product then. This need is fulfilled when an animal is killed. If you bypass the purchasing of that product, someone else may buy it an hour later. But that's a little better. Because that's another hour that one innocent cow gets to live.
So even if you think it's not going to make a difference, it is. Maybe not the second you buy it, maybe not even that day but soon enough, it will make a difference.
