Hunting is the number one threat to wildlife today. Hunters kill over 200 million animals every year. So why do people hunt? Most hunt for one or more of the following reasons: tradition, to be in the club, recreation, to be close to nature, to feel "like a man", or to experience the thrill of the kill. To the non-hunter, hunting is just walking out in the woods and killing something. It's so easy such an activity must only appeal to some baser element of humanity who enjoys killing animals for the sole sake of killing.
What does it feel like to be hunted down in terror and then torn apart while still alive? Certain types of experiences are so horrific that their nature is hard to handle for long with out feeling physically sick. Only 1-2 percent of hunters actually hunt for food. Other hunters may eat what they kill. They hunt for sport, not food.
If killing is not the main point of hunting as these hunters claim, then the obvious question is, .why kill at all?. Can't an outdoorsman experience the same sense of adventure and exhibit as much skill, if not more, by shooting a deer with a camera instead of with a gun or bow? I have never understood why people mount the heads of animals and hang them up to look down on their conquerors. Possibly it feels good to these people to be superior to animals, but doesn't it seem that if they were sure of it they would not have to prove it?
