So many times in my life I have come home enraged from being confronted by a meat-eater. So many times I have wished there were simple answers to all the questions that seem to pierce my life everyday. Fortunately Carol Adam's book Living Among Meat-eaters has everything.
From the beginning to end, this book is jam packed with personal experiences and advice. It takes every possible situation where a vegetarian might have interactions with a meat-eater (or a blocked vegetarian as Carol Adams labels them) and gives pointers on how to deal with each circumstance. Adams takes everything from Thanksgiving dinner to sharing kitchens to dating and analyzes them. She ultimately teaches us to be happy with our lifestyle choices.
One point that I really took to heart in this book was that you don't have to answer the questions meat-eaters throw at you. I was always so frustrated by the fact that sometimes I didn't have the answers to their ridiculous questions, but by not feeling the need to answer everything makes life so much easier. I feel happier now that I don't feel the need to have all the answers.
Living Among Meat-Eaters isn't just advice; it's also packed with recipes and a large appendix filled with cards and facts that are very helpful. For instance, it has dining cards you can leave at restaurants letting them know how you feel about their vegetarian options or lack thereof.
This book is yet another one of Carol Adams's masterpieces. It has recipes, advice, and just about everything else you need to survive in today's meat-eating world. Everyone should own a copy.
