I recommend this CD for Slipknot and Mudvayne fans. Their dark and heavy
music can easily be compared to them. However, Earth Crisis has
a message in their music. This hardcore and militant straightedge band is
also vegan. In one of their songs, "Morality Dictates", Karl Buechner, the
lead singer, screams, "The brutality is unacceptable/ I strive to end the
exploitation, morality dictates/ that I live vegan." The lyrics,
"Individual innocent beings each cow, sheep, pig, goat, or chicken/ Viewed
as a product to be processed/ Raised only to be slaughtered and consumed"
tell the truth about factory farms and slaughterhouses.
This Earth Crisis album is full of songs with really powerful lyrics. They
write about war ("Civilians used as pawns in a demon’s power games\
Buildings crumble, planes fall, blown out of the sky") in their song, "Names
Carved into Granite." Since they’re a straight-edge (sXe) band, they write
about the effects of drug abuse ("Dying internal organs no longer function/
Judgment impaired, direction lost") in "Situation Degenerates."
Behind the CD, on the inside of the back cover, there’s a message to their
audience about genocides, abuse toward women (rape), racism, homophobia,
animal cruelty (eating meat, wearing animals, etc.), and the ruining of the
environment (cutting down of rainforests). Karl writes, "This is a weapon,
not only to destroy all forms of oppression, but also to celebrate the
beauty of all our different cultures, races, sexualities, genders,
religions, species. But the war is so much bigger and goes so much deeper
than all of these things. This is a weapon to strike down every demon, to
end every form of oppression."
Throughout this CD, you’ll see the phrase
"There is a war/ this is a weapon." If you’re interested in heavy and loud
music, I suggest you check out Earth Crisis. Any of their albums are great.
They also have a DVD filled w/ footage of tours, interviews, etc.
