I'm interested in finding good, inexpensive products. What hair products, make-up, deodorant, skin care products, fragrances do you use? --Lucy
ANSWERS:
Tammy, age 17: I love to use the Crystal deodorant. It is a solid stick made purely of natural salt minerals. It kills the bacteria in your armpit. (The bacteria is the cause of the odor). I swear to you, you don't smell! It can be found at Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or any natural store. Also, in regards to deodorant, the Tom's of Maine ones are great! If you're looking for anti-perspirant and don't want to support those big corporations, Tom's has one that is as natural as you can get, and it will keep you dry and smelling fresh.
As for toothpaste, I absolutely LOVE Tom's of Maine's cinnamint toothpaste--it's fantastic. I guarantee anyone that if they try Tom's of Maine toothpaste (whichever flavor they think they'll like best) for one week and then switch back to their normal saccharin-flavored toothpaste, they will choose Tom’s.
Laura, age 15: Nature's Gate: Skin Therapy Colloidal Oatmeal.
This is a cruelty-free moisturizer/lotion/all purpose
soothing cream for softening skin...works on itchy
areas, minor skin problems, sunburn, under makeup,
etc...I forget how much it costs, but an 18-oz. pump
bottle isn't that expensive, lasts VERY long and has a
variety of uses. It also helps scars fade and is good
for use on sensitive skin. The company makes a lot of
stuff though, I'll bet their other products are good.
Anonymous, age 16: So far, I have discovered that Maybelline, Revlon and L'oreal all produce
lovely makeup/hair products which haven't been tested on animals. You can
buy all of them at pharmacies, grocery stores, and major department stores
as well. They are quite affordable (especially maybelline) and of good
quality. The same goes for Bonnebelle and Naturistics makeup products. There
is a giant list from PETA.com that you may also want to check out.
Marlee, age 12: All Bonne Bell Makeup is great and cruelty-free. The pricing is fair, but its more more kids and teens than professional make-up.
Also, my favourite: The Body Shop!!! The best make-up I've ever used. A little pricey, but it's totally against animal cruelty/testing and always has posters in their stores against it, and fundraisers going.
