"I'm a vegetarian and have been for around twelve years. Luckily for me, my parents
are vege's too. My question may seem a bit unorthodox, but I own a tarantula, which I got free from a breeder (not a pet shop) and I feed it crickets. Is this wrong? I am vegetarian because there is a choice for us humans not eat
animals. However, for other species it is mandatory for them to stay alive."

ANSWERS:
Natalie, age 20: It's good that you're thinking about this in terms of other animals. Answers are not black and white. I believe that it is right for you to feed your pet the food it is supposed to eat. Nature made spiders to consume other insects, and to deny that would be "cruel and unusual punishment" for your tarantula. However, you may want to consider if it is ethical for you to keep such a pet in your home, for both the crickets' sake and that of the spider.
