"Hi, I was hoping some other vegan teens could give me their opinions about keeping a leather softball glove that was my dad's and he gave to me before I was vegan. Just to help explain, the glove means a lot to me because it came from my dad and was his, and softball was something we shared. He lives in a different state now, and it's nice to have something from him. I have finally found a place to buy a good quality synthetic glove, so now I won't use it for playing, but should I keep it?" --Leigh
ANSWERS:
Tammy, age 17: Hi Softball Lover, I feel as though it is okay to keep it. The glove has already been made and given to you, so you can use it. But more specifically, it has meaning to you. I think that overrides the fact that it is leather. Perhaps when you find someone who can make use of it and you feel ready to let go of it, I would then give it away. But remember--you can't be perfectly vegan all the time--it is important to remember that. You have to pick and choose your battles and I feel as though because it was a gift from your father and shares that sentimental value, you should keep it.
